It was my first time on Airbnb and I think I had a unique situation. I had someone book a three-month reservation. The guest seemed a bit strange but I guess things were okay… until two months into reservation I got an email from Airbnb saying the guest had cancelled the reservation. The guest didn’t tell us and left the place a mess but that is minor. Based on our cancellation policy, the guest owes us 30 days’ rent. Airbnb calculated the amount due (around $1,200) based on the policy and communicated that to us. However, the guest then deleted his card and profile so Airbnb says there isn’t any way to collect the money. This can’t be a new situation for them. What is their responsibility to us, the hosts? Are they a party to this contract and responsible or will they hide behind some policy? Any help or suggestions here?
How can this be the case ? As far as I’m aware when you book a property through airbnb you pay upfront ? Meaning that the money would have taken straight away from the guest and directly held by Airbnb ?
