Airbnb is a perfect platform for scam

blankblankblankblank

Approximately one week ago, I was browsing for accomodation in London through airbnb and this “Luxury Central Location Apartment” appeared and it seems to fit the criteria that I wanted. I have also noticed the host named Natsuko is verified. So I contacted the host using the red button in airbnb to ask for availability. I received the reply on the next day in my email, but not in my airbnb account. Because it was my first time using airbnb, I did not find it odd and thought it was the standard procedure. I also was not warned about this when I created my airbnb account. The host confirmed the availability and asked for my details, which I eventually gave. Within hours, I received an airbnb email (invoice@airbnb-payment.com) confirming my reservation and asked me to bank in the money to the bank account provided. At almost the same time, the host also emailed me that the reservation has been made and requested me to send her the payment receipt once the payment is done to secure my reservation. I made the payment few days after that. It started to concern me as i did not receive any payment invoice from airbnb. So i called airbnb on the second day and realised i might have been scammed. I called my bank to cancel the payment but it was too late. I called the receipient bank (Alior Bank) to report this and asked them to halt the account to receive the payment. I was informed that the only authority that can halt this is by direct cooperation between my bank and Alior bank. It was too late. Fuck airbnb.

Misogynist Host

The keys to the apartment didn’t work, the host extorted an additional night’s payment in cash (by claiming it was a “tourist tax” & threatening to claim we made damage to the apartment if we didn’t pay), made extremely rude & sexist comments, sent assistants to harass us late at night, claimed that I stole a curtain (!!!) & that he would report me to the police, threatened to say that I stole art as well if I complained, lied about the time of check in + the condition of the apartment + much more on the review. Worst of all – it was only after having checked in for over a day that we realized that covering every wall of the apartment was extremely violent and misogynist paintings incl a painting of a woman with her throat cut and bleeding out, a painting of a vagina with a sword through it, a drawing of a woman’s face as she appears to be raped, slogans such as “your girlfriend is a bitch” and “high men love pussy”.. and more! more details here: bit.ly/1FdPTNU

Ripped off for £950 and Airbnb wash their hands with me

I’m emailing you to bring to your attention my current, costly issue. I wanted to book an apartment for me and my friends for a forth coming trip to Amsterdam on the 7th May for 3 nights. I’d recently joined airbnb as a member in December and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to use the app everyone was talking about. I found a listing on there that was perfect, a real plush modern apartment that boasted 5 bedrooms, open plan kitchen and a pool table. I clicked the contact host button and emailed the address that was given to me. I was responded to by a host via email and went through the regular questions you’d expect from a host letting an apartment. My ‘host’ (called Yuying) then said they had initiated the booking on their side with AirBnB. I then received a confirmation email that looked more than legitimate. Confirmation code, details of the bank account I was paying in to and even a ‘airbnb live support’ link at the bottom, I had no reason to suspect anything.

Don’t Stay with DeLonta in Los Angeles

FIRST: DO NOT STAY WITH DE LONTA IN LOS ANGELES!! HIS BOOKING IS LISTED AS “PRIVATE ROOM, SAFE, COMFORTABLE IN HOLLYWOOD” I booked his flat for a night, not only did he give me a FAKE ADDRESS, he simply stopped communicating with me the day of the booking. I tried for 8 hours to reach him and to get AirBnB to straighten out this problem. Now he is STILL LISTING HIS FLAT. AirBnB says that they “are working with him”. How is that the right thing to do? I don’t think someone who gives a false address and then disappears should be allowed to continue to profit from AirBnB business, do you? How many other travelers will have the same problem I did? SECOND: AirBnB should have a plan in place to make sure their hosts are reliable, and honest and “safe”! All I got was a refund and they think I should be happy about that. My trip was completely ruined. Too bad, it’s a great idea but not backed up by a very good business plan.

Nightmarish old guests

Horrible guests. Had a 100% perfect record until a bunch of old people came to our old apartment in NYC and they started tearing it apart, even stole our keys. We renting it out for only $40 a night and never misinterpreted anything- we took actual pictures of apartment and the moment they came in they called our house STINKY. Horrible people- glad we kicked them out despite their age. They called the cops on us coz they lost their keys only to find it in the old hag’s purse, then they stole it after we finally kicked them out. Worst 3 days of my Airbnb hosting life, stopped hosting after that.

Scammed By AirBNB Host

I cannot recommend these apartments and this host. Our experience was very bad. I had told the contact person several times when I would be arriving. Upon arrival I was told it would be 2 hours before it was ready. The first weekend was extremely noisy and disturbing. There was very loud yelling and cussing in the middle of the night for at least 2 hours straight from a close unit. Then some people were arguing and yelling outside our door very early the same morning. I usually don’t wake up easy but these people have problems. My wife was very upset! The next night was almost as bad. Parking was also a serious problem. Before our stay I asked the host about the parking situation at the apt. She said that usually there is parking available directly in front of the complex to the west. If there were no places available I could park in any open places on the streets away from the direction of the beach. The first 3 nights I had to park 6 to 7 blocks away and walk to the complex.

Where’s the refund? No help from Airbnb!

I have been trying to get a refund for a canceled stay overseas. The host agreed to refund but my bank account was closed when I moved cross country and airbnb said it had to go to closed account. An airbnb employee gave me incorrect info and the host reduced the amount of refund because she thought I accused her of lying about the location of the funds. Airbnb has has been EXTREMELY difficult to contact and now lists a password to a pdf file for my refund info but there is NO PLACE to plug this password into, no location for the file, no way to respond to this latest email that doesn’t just go to an automated choice of subjects- like being stuck on an automated phone answering system that doesn’t include the title of person or number you seek. NEVER AGAIN.

Sorry, we have no rooms available but we’ll take your money anyway

I tried to make a reservation on Airbnb and the host’s reply was “sorry, not available those dates”. But when I look at my bank account I see an “authorisation” for the amount of the reservation, which was 140€ as the reservation was for 7 days. Supposedly I will eventually get the money back but right now my available bank balance is down 140€ for the reply “sorry, not available”. What happens if I don’t have more money in my account to pay another place to stay? What if that was all the money I had to pay for my stay? Why are they doing taking my money if the reply is no? This really pisses me off and it will make me avoid airbnb in the future because, although I think the hosts are good people, the company is obviously run by greedy, unscrupulous crooks. What hotel charges your card if they have no rooms available, leaving you without enough to go to find another place and then tells you “don’t worry, you’ll get it back within 7-31 days depending on your bank etc etc”.

Airbnb now ring fences money on pending reservations

I used to use airbnb a couple of years or so back. I am sure they have changed the way they now treat pending reservations. Correct me if I am wrong – you used to be able to send out multiple reservation requests – someone would accept your request and then you would pay. No problem. Now I have recently started using airbnb again and it seems you make a reservation and it automatically becomes a pending reservation and your money is ring fenced out of your bank account. For example I am trying to book somewhere for 3 days time in London maybe at a cost of £600ish for the week. I have one pending request outstanding and they have not yet accepted. The profile says within 24 hours so as it stands they have 8 hours and counting. If they don’t accept by tomorrow I may have to make 2 additional requests to ensure booking. This will mean £1200 ring fenced for (as airbnb states) what can be up to 5 days! I preferred the old booking procedure for obvious reasons.
