Honeymoon Hell

My wife and I recently booked our honeymoon accommodation in Hawaii through Airbnb, to save some money after a rather expensive wedding.

We had a thorough look around the website and finally decided on a “Charming Waterfront Cottage”. After we viewed the photos we were quite excited and couldn’t wait to get there.

When we first walked in the door, we noticed a bit of a funky smell but thought the cottage may have just been closed up for a while – so we opened some windows.

It didn’t take us long to work out what the smell was. There was food in the fridge that had been there I don’t know how long and there was so much mold on the bathroom walls and roof, it obviously hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. I contacted Airbnb and they pretty much told me that it wasn’t their problem and we should just clean it.

Really? It was our honeymoon! Why should we have to clean up someone else’s mess? Needless to say I won’t be booking through Airbnb again, they ruined what was meant to be one of the happiest times of our lives.

  1. Technically I agree with Mario… but holy crap what a crappy honeymoon! I think you should take ANOTHER honeymoon as soon as you can afford it 😀

  2. What? Who in sane mind would book the HONEYMOON on AirBNB? It’s just insane! Is like purchasing a parachute on eBay!
I know weddings are expensive, but AirBNB? Save on the number of guests, the type of food, decoration, whatever… They all got forgotten in 2 weeks. The honeymoon trip is forever, good or bad it will never ever be forgotten.
To the next couples thinking on doing the same: don’t even think about booking a honeymoon trip on AirBNB, 9flats, or whatever else site like this. You will hate youselves if something goes wrong. Save a couple bucks and book a real hotel. Travel to the other side of the world is unnecessary. A shorter trip will give you more money to the booking.
I am not blaming the victim, if AirBNB don’t supported you is their fault, you can ask reparations. But does not matter what kind of reparations you will get (I really hope you get any), this bad trip is burned in your memory forever.

I booked my last vacation on a site like AirBNB, and I am deeply satisfied. I read the other guests’ comments, all recommended the place, and I will surely do it again later this year. But not a honeymoon.
